Works From Within
Sculptra and Radiesse represent a fundamentally different approach to facial volumization than conventional hyaluronic acid fillers. Rather than adding ready-made volume to the face, collagen biostimulators trigger the body's own collagen-producing cells to generate new structural support from within the tissue. The results build gradually over weeks to months and last significantly longer than hyaluronic acid filler, making them an investment in the structural foundation of the face rather than a temporary volume add.
At Superior Health Medical and Wellness, Dr. Akers uses Sculptra and Radiesse as part of a comprehensive approach to facial rejuvenation, particularly for patients seeking longer-lasting results, comprehensive volume restoration across large areas, or a gradual, undetectable improvement rather than an immediate change. These products require expertise in technique and patient selection, and they are never used without a thorough consultation and clear treatment plan.

Not Just the Surface

Starting in the mid-20s, collagen production declines by approximately one percent per year. By the time visible aging is apparent, significant collagen and elastin have been lost from the skin and deeper facial structures. Biostimulators address this underlying driver of aging directly, rather than simply masking its effects.
Because collagen biostimulator results develop gradually over months, the change is imperceptible to those around you. There is no single moment of obvious transformation. Instead, people notice that you look consistently refreshed, rested, and vibrant. This gradual quality is one of the most appealing aspects of Sculptra and Radiesse for patients who want results without announcing them.
Sculptra results typically last two years or more. While the upfront cost of a Sculptra series is higher than a single filler appointment, the cost per month of maintained result is comparable or lower. Patients who commit to Sculptra as a long-term rejuvenation strategy often find it the most cost-effective approach to sustained, natural-looking results.

What Each Does
Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) microparticles suspended in sterile water. When injected into the deep dermis and subcutaneous tissue, PLLA microparticles are gradually absorbed by the body while simultaneously stimulating local fibroblasts to produce new collagen. The water component of the injection is absorbed within days, and the collagen-stimulating process occurs over the following months as the PLLA microparticles dissolve.
Radiesse contains calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres in a gel carrier. The gel carrier provides immediate volume on injection, while the CaHA microspheres stimulate collagen production as they are gradually absorbed. Radiesse has a firmer consistency than Sculptra, which makes it particularly well-suited for structural areas like the jawline and chin where definition and projection are required alongside volume.
Choosing between Sculptra and Radiesse, or using both in combination, depends on the treatment areas, the degree of volume loss, the structural support needed, and whether immediate or gradual results are preferred. Dr. Akers explains the rationale for her product selection at your consultation so you understand exactly what you are receiving and why.

Radiesse Series Looks Like
Sculptra is typically administered as a series of three to four treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. Each session involves multiple small injections across the treatment area, with the specific placement and volume guided by your current volume deficit and the collagen response from prior treatments. Patients are advised to massage the treated areas daily for five days after each session to distribute the product evenly.
Radiesse treatments may be performed as a single session or staged series depending on the degree of correction needed. Follow-up assessments help evaluate the collagen response and determine whether additional product is needed. Dr. Akers schedules these follow-ups at the appropriate intervals and adjusts the plan based on your tissue response.
